Relaxed.

How would you describe your tresses?
It is cut in an angled bob. I mostly wear it straight & sleek but my tresses are most definitely an accessory to my style.

What are some challenges you’ve faced with your hair texture?
I face the same challenges as most. Over processing. Heat damage. I once colored it or, I should say, bleached it in the front for a dramatic effect. Big mistake. Never bleach relaxed hair at least not on your own or with a kitchentichen. Needless to say I got that dramatic effect when my bangs area fell out. That was eons ago and oddly enough I would love to color it again but that’s a whole process and journey I’m just not ready to embark on just yet.

What’s your current hair regimen?
I maintain my hair myself – washing and conditioning it every 1-2 weeks or so. I try to wash it at night so it can air dry overnight, minimizing the blow dryer time & heat I have to apply to it. In the AM I straighten it. On those occasions when I don’t have the time or energy to wash it, I wear it curly or wavy, setting it in Bantu knots overnight and using a double wand tool to define the curls in the AM.

Tell us about your proudest hair moment.
I don’t know if I have one proud hair moment. I’m proud anytime I walk out the house and it’s flowing and looking good. I will say that I am pretty proud that I maintain it myself. People always ask me who relaxes my hair or who straightens and curls it and it feels good to say “ME!”. However, I do have to give credit where credit is due and recognize that I can only maintain my hair so well because I have a great cut and that can only come from a good stylist. [Hey Porshe!]

One piece of advice for others with your hair texture?
Don’t over do it with the heating products. Whether a blow dryer, flat-iron or curling wand. Those touch ups here and there in between styling sessions add up and wreak tons of damage and breakage. If you can smell your hair when you pull the flat iron through it, that’s a problem.
